The Interoperability Challenge
Investment in computing and data communications infrastructure can be quickly devalued by the relentless pace of new technology development. Integration, migration paths and backward/forward compatibility must be factored into every procurement decision – with an eye toward maximizing the lifespan and return on investment.
This challenge is compounded for industries and agencies reliant upon legacy computing platforms, such as air traffic control, financial services, airlines and government. While durable and reliable, these systems were not designed to anticipate today’s proliferation of data-gathering devices, applications, distributed processing and data stream formats.
The need for platform and system interoperability becomes imperative as users strive to achieve seamless integration, collation and analysis of data from multiple sources.
