Modem Splitters
The Sunhillo Modem Splitter (MS) Product Set consists of the 8-Port Modem Splitter Card, the Modem Splitter Receptor Assembly, Modem Splitter Chassis Assembly, and Power Distribution products. Sunhillo Modem Data Splitter products provide connectivity from one device interface to a maximum of six processors. The Modem Data Splitter is a highly reliable solution for implementing redundancy in distributed architectures, as well as facilitating transition from a legacy system to a new system by providing data connections to both.
8-Port Modem Splitter Card
The 8-Port Modem Splitter card supports the following connections:
· One (DB-25 Male) modem (input/source) port for the device. This port may be configured to accept and transmit data using either RS-232 or RS-422 interface.
· One (DB-25 Female) monitor port (not re-driven) is a direct reflection of the signals on the modem port, and is used for control signal and data monitoring.
· Four (DB-25 Female) controlling port connections for the processor connections. These are bi-directional RS-422 interfaces with interlocking data communications to ensure integrity of data communications with the single communications source.
· Two (DB-25 Female) output only port connections. These ports may be configured to accept and transmit data using either RS-232 or RS-422 interface, non-interlocking.
To enhance reliability and prevent single-source failure due to power loss, dual power inputs provide redundant +12v DC power to each Modem Splitter. Modem Data Splitter cards feature hot-pluggable insertion into the Modem Splitter Receptor Assembly. The 8-port Modem Splitter card has nine front view LED indicators that provide real-time information regarding the status and current functionality of the Modem Splitter. The LED indicates redundant power, RxD, RxC, TxD1-4, and TxC. When the Modem Data Splitter is installed, each LED is visible and labeled via the host Receptor Assembly’s front panel.
Modem Splitter Receptor Assembly
The Modem Splitter Card slides into the Modem Splitter Receptor Assembly’s hot-pluggable back-plane, for connection of redundant power as well as external data cables. This feature allows removal and replacement of 8-Port Modem Splitter Cards without removing the DB25 data cables or power cables. Blank receptor assemblies are available to maintain proper airflow and aid rack integration design.
Modem Splitter Chassis
Modem Data Splitter Receptor assemblies slide into the Modem Splitter Chassis assembly. The chassis assembly is a standard 19 inch rack-mountable, 4U, anodized metal cage designed to accommodate up to four MS Receptor Assemblies and their associated 8-Port Modem Splitter Cards.
Power Distribution Panel
The Power Distribution Panel contains 16 AMP mate-n-lock connections for distributing redundant power to the 8-Port Modem Data Splitters. The panel is 19 inch rack-mountable, 1U, and capable of supplying redundant +12v DC power for up to 8 Sunhillo 8-Port Modem Splitters, utilizing both primary and secondary power sources. The power sources are also available from Sunhillo to complete the total rack mountable solution.
