TDM to IP Solutions

Solution for elimination of leased TDM lines

FAA systems depend on TDM-based services provided by telecom carriers (approx. 21,000 services – many using T1 Line connectivity). TDM services will phased out and migrated to IP over the next few years.  The TDM services used in the NAS include voice, surveillance, weather, maintenance systems, and inter-facility / flight data a list that encompasses nearly the entire NAS.

Sunhillo’s Solution minimizes risk and provides a TDM to IP solution to meet the FAA’s needs as well as other industries that are transitioning from TDM leased lines. Using Sunhillo’s TDM to IP products like the RICI 5000 Gateway, Ventnor Concentrator, and LITE Software Suite will help ease the transition and provide a safe, reliable solution.

RICI 5000 Gateway - TDM to IP Product

Sunhillo’s Real-Time Interface & Conversion Item (RICI) 5000 Gateway has been specifically designed to address the needs associated with the elimination of leased TDM lines. As such, the product comes equipped with a suite of built in user configurable options that allows the user to configure the RICI 5000 Gateway for their required needs depending on where they are in the migration path relative to the elimination of leased TDM lines or as commonly referred to Sun Setting on TDM.

Ventnor Concentrator - TDM to IP Product

The Ventnor Concentrator is intended to interface to a number of different devices such as NAV Aid Devices (VOR, RVR, ALS…), Weather Sensors (ASOS/AWOS), and Radar Flight Data Equipment. The Ventnor Concentrator supports up to 16 serial ports. Additionally, the Ventnor Concentrator has been designed to provide a CMHP RMLS connection that provides monitoring of the Ventnor Concentrator hardware, and individual channel configuration and status.

User Configurable conversion options:

SAI (Async) <–> CMHP
790 (HDLC) <–> CMHP
SAI (Async) <–> ActiveMQ
790 (HDLC) <–> ActiveMQ
SAI (Async) <–> SWIM
790 (HDLC) <–> SWIM

Legacy Interface Test Equipment (LITE) Software Suite

LITE interface

As part of the TDM to IP initiative, there has been a move to transition serial communication circuits to IP circuits. Sunhillo’s Legacy Interface Test Equipment (LITE) has been specifically designed to provide a platform for testing FAA Legacy serial interfaces and providing an environment to help in the transition from TDM to IP. The LITE is a fully configurable simulation tool.

Use Case Scenarios

As the Sun sets on the TDM leased lines Sunhillo has developed a product set to ease the transition as well as provide a final low risk solution to move to IP.  As the future moves to IP only Sunhillo has developed a new platform that is highly powerful and designed for an IP only world.

Sunhillo TDM to IP Past Performance

Sunhillo’s RICI 5000 Gateway is designed from the RICI 5000 Surveillance Data Distribution & Conversion platform.  The RICI 5000 is highly deployed across the globe and specifically across the United States FAA for the ADS‑B program.  Using this highly reliable mission‑critical platform as a base ensures a quality product for your TDM to IP mission.

The Ventnor Concentrator was specifically designed to address the needs associated with the elimination of leased TDM lines, which traditionally are used for transporting serial data. As such, the product comes equipped with a suite of built-in user configurable options that allow the users to configure the unit for their required needs depending on where they are in the migration path relative to the elimination of leased TDM lines, or, as commonly referred to Sun Setting on TDM.
